'People don't like their own kids': Teacher openly roasts the parents complaining about snow days

To kids, snow days are magical. You've woken up to a white blanket of frozen fun covering your neighborhood, and then all of your dreams come true when your mom gets that fateful call from your teacher. School is canceled! Hooray! Without the worries of driving on icy roads or working to put food on the table, all you're left with is the insatiable desire to have the best day ever with whichever parent is forced to stay home with you.

However, as a working parent, snow days are a little more complicated.

  • It's understandable to be a little peeved as a working parent when your kid has a snow day. But whose fault is it? Don't shoot the messenger, but it's certainly not the teacher's fault that school is canceled. Raging parents should take a moment to blame the sky for dumping snow on their town, focusing their anger away from their child's weekly caregiver. Despite this logic, we have all seen our fair share of snobby parents blame the teachers for all of their problems.

    don't like to be around your kids when you "shouldn't" have to. Just admit it and we can all have a drink and laugh about it. Enough of your, "my kids education blah blah blah." We all know you'd rather let your kid stare at a screen all night long so you can have your glass of wine/beer and watch Bachelor/sports instead of supervising their homework duties. your kid's teacher

    *Edit after 3.5k upvotes. I still believe it's the ugly truth for a lot, but not all parents. Yes, I understand the struggles, but there's far too many comments from the public about teacher snow and cold days; mouthing off about teachers being lazy, entitled, and having too many days off when we "celebrate" a weather day off.     Glad Break_618 OP. 9 hr. ago THIS. Teachers shouldn't be the villains in this. It's their boss who's making them come to work, or docking pay for not coming to work in dangerous weather conditions. Also, yes, it that for some parents, not going to work means not getting paid, but that isn't my concern, however selfish that sounds. It's just not, so I get irked when parents mouth off about how it's "unfair" teachers get the day off, blah, blah, blah.

    unleadedbrunette 11 hr. ago Schools are for educating children, not babysitting. If school is closed and your wife must go to work, maybe you keep your children? Or, you get someone else? As a teacher, I have had to have other family members help me take care of my children so that I can take care of other people's children.

    90s-Stock-Anxiety. 1 day ago The only people I see who get mad because they have to be around their kids are usually wealthy families. Most families I know, like 99%, get frustrated because we are penalized for missing work and/or don't have paid leave so our paycheck gets cut and it makes it hard to pay bills.

Not being around their kids.     Hot Income9784 1 day ago I see the opposite in my sons' school. People complaining that schools are not calling snow days on social media. Then when confronted with "You are the parent. You can decide to keep your child home for the day," the response is that the child already has so many absences that they can't afford one due the weather. Can't win either way.

    earthgarden 20 hr. ago This is part of it but also for many parents if the schools are closed this means they have to call off work. Back in the day this didn't matter as you could leave kids home alone with no fallout, but now if they're younger than middle school someone might call CPS on you.

    Left Direction _3145 1 day ago The parents who complain about snow days in my district are always the wealthy ones. The teachers, and sometimes the nannies are the ones who have to do the hard stuff and they deal with their kids on vacation so that they only have to be the good guys. Sickening.
